The Sonic Amateur Game Expo, or SAGE, is an online gaming expo held annually at http://www.sagexpo.org/ to showcase the latest in the fangaming community. Traditionally its main purpose has been to showcase fangames based on the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, however it is open to any freelance developer that wishes to participate. 2008 marks the event’s 13th itineration. In the past we’ve had many great games introduced, special guests, fun events, and this year will hopefully be the best yet. It’s a huge opportunity for fangamers to show off their latest product.

We usually draw in about 5000 unique hits per day, going off 2007’s statistics, and the participation continues to grow.

“The Sonic Amateur Games Expo (S.A.G.E.) is an annual community event designed to promote our games and raise awareness of our combined efforts outside of our community. It began in September of 2000 by the hands of community-famous semi-celebrity BlazeHedgehog and continues to this day.”

Currently Compiling History

A key component that has been with SAGE since it started has been the local SHOUTcast radio station we have aptly called the SAGEcast. With dedicated servers, individuals wanting some airetime are be able to broadcast their own shows for people to enjoy and listen. In the past it was very impromptu, but over the past couple years, with the introduction of multiple hosts as a viable medium, as well as an increase in planned programming,

What’s New:

This year hopefully we can have an emphasis on show quality, with more planned programming than we are used to seeing. In order to do this however, I need your help. There will SAGEcast awards that will be handed out for best quality program, number of listeners, and most innovative.

If you have an idea for one of these preplanned shows, let me know.

More Info Soon

Complete Game Contest

Want your own page on SAGE? Want some special treatment? Complete your fangame by the registration deadline, August 8th, and the best quality entry(s) will receive VIP status at the expo, receiving a special booth with screenshots and information, almost like having your booth hosted by SAGE itself. In addition to this your games will have their own section on the booths page.

Details on how to submit these entries will be explained closer to registration.

Note: Game must be Sonic Related, in order to maintain coherency with the expo's primary target.

This year's SAGE is going to expand the focus a bit. Nowadays there are many different assets that make up game design, and most of the time there are different people assigned to these tasks, and only these tasks. This trend is starting to be seen more and more in the fangaming community as teams cluster together to bring a higher quality product. This year I intend to give these individuals their own way to expression as well.

This segment, which we are tentatively calling the Art Zone, is going to appeal to those who profess in the many visual arts of game design, which include concept artists, spriters, and even modellers. At SAGE, there will be an Art Gallery to showcase works of art by all these individuals.

SefirothDB has been named the chief executive of this area, and he will be not only be in charge of managing the Art Contests we always hold, but will be advertising SAGE on art-centric forums in an attempt to garner some talent from other communities, as well as helping with the Art Gallery.
